Morning, Noon, Night

When it came time for actress Katie Cassidy and former attorney Lynsey Eaton to pick a place for their lifestyle site Tomboy KC to call home, some were surprised to hear the pair chose Dallas, Texas.  But after the founders of the popular blog walked us through a typical day in the Big D, the better question is, when are we booking a trip?

“We knew that a lot was happening in the fashion world in Dallas (where else in the U.S. has Chanel hosted a runway show?), but before we moved we really had no idea what to expect outside of big hair and big personalities. After having spent so much time in L.A., the pace of life and the warmness of Texans was incredibly refreshing. We like to say we were pleasantly surprised by Dallas.”

Where to Stay:

The Joule – When it comes to being hip, this hotel is certainly it. Highlights include a stunning rooftop pool, fabulous restaurants on site (CBD Provisions and Americano deserve their own write-up) and excellent shopping within walking distance (Traffic LA, Le Labo and Forty Five Ten are all within a block). (Neighborhood: Downtown)

SoulCycle just came to Dallas and it’s like the heavens parted. Every morning we are both in town (a rarity these days with Katie’s schedule) you can find us there, without fail. And afterwards, it’s always coffee and a little bit of work at a local coffee shop.”

Where to Grab a Cup of Joe:

Royal Blue Grocery – A community store and coffee shop conveniently located inside the spectacular Highland Park Village. Grab a Reuben and a cup of coffee and work through lunch. (Neighborhood: Highland Park)

Boulangerie by Village Baking Co. – With croissants as big as your face and a quaint patio on a hip walkable street, we head here when we want to pretend like we are in Paris.  (Neighborhood: Lower Greenville)

Ascension – We would argue this is the best coffee in Dallas. So if that is what you are looking for, sit back and order yourself a Lavender Latte and some Avocado Toast.  You can thank us later. (Neighborhood: Uptown)

“One of the most common questions we get asked is about the style in Dallas. While it tends to lean more feminine than either of us, there seems to be an edgier undercurrent taking the scene by storm. Some of the most adventurous fashionistas we know are inside the metroplex.  Maybe it’s the big personality thing, but women here just go for it.”

Where to Shop:

Elements – This is our favorite spot for fashionable clothing for special occasions and everyday alike. Not to mention, their collection of accessories is unlike anything else out there. When you are done impulse purchasing, head on over to Eatzi’s down the street and grab a quick bite to eat. (Neighborhood: Lovers Lane)

Forty Five Ten – When it comes to luxury boutiques, none holds a candle to Forty Five Ten. It’s worth a stop in even just to see the space. It’s truly a work of art, filled to the brim with designer clothing, home goods (including prints from Texas native Gray Malin) and hard to find accessories. (Neighborhood: Downtown)

To Be Continued… – Not only do we sell our pre-loved pieces here, we’ve never been in and walked out without something. Maybe it’s the gorgeous well-appointed store or the fashionable women who drop off their pieces, but nothing about shopping here feels like consignment…except for the prices. It’s a goldmine.  (Neighborhood: Lovers Lane)

“Probably the biggest adjustment when we moved was adjusting to the food. And not just the type. Dining in Texas is a way of life. In LA, you could always get a last minute reservation somewhere so long as you weren’t trying to hit up a restaurant that opened in the last month. But Dallas? Think again, buddy. Going to dinner is a Dallasite’s favorite past time, so if you want to go somewhere (even for lunch), you better have called ahead…days ago.

Before we head out for dinner and drinks, on special occasions we call in the BeGlammed glam squad so we can hang at home and get hair and makeup on the fly. It’s the perfect way to spend a little girl time before a big night out.”

Where to Eat:

HG SPLY Co. – When it comes to eating healthily in Texas, no one has a corner on the market quite like HG SPLY (pronounced “HG Supply”).   A back to the basics spot, HG’s all-natural food and artisan cocktails are worth the hype.  We strongly suggest trying out one of their bowls. (Neighborhood: Lower Greenville)

Uchi – It took awhile to find good sushi in Dallas. But now that we have, we would put Uchi up against some of the best we’ve ever had. Before you order, ask your server what to get and then just go for it. Trust us.  (Neighborhood: Uptown)

Mi Cocina’s Monkey Bar – A Dallas staple, “MiCo” is a local favorite hangout for drinks and good Mexican food. Known for their Mambo Taxis, these margaritas will be sure to go down easy and knock you off your feet. If Sangria isn’t your cup of Tequila, mix it up and try the Jalapeno margarita. You won’t regret it. (Neighborhood: Highland Park)
